Food For Thought – August 12, 2007

Proverbs 30: 18-19

Three things are too wonderful for me;
four things I do not understand:
the way of an eagle in the sky,
the way of a serpent on a rock
the way of a ship on the high seas,
the way of a man with a maiden

Proverbs is a book full of poetry and a truth that has held firm for thousands of yeasrs. These two verses speak very eloquently to me of trust.
The eagle is the bird that flies the highest in the sky. It can soar for miles without flapping its wings, truting on the air currents supporting it. Likewise, we as Christians are unique in our personal relationship with Christ, trusting Him to support us through times of sorrow and joy alike.
The desert serpent lies dormant in the cold of the night. Only when it is warmed by the sun can it move freely about the world. Similarly, we as Christians are plagued by doubts and fears until the Light of God’s Word allows us to walk confidently in faith.
A whip on the seas is at the mercy of the waves and wind to carry it safely home. We, too, as Christians trust that God will carry us and gude us to our ultimate home, Heaven.
Last, a man who wants a woman as a wife woos her until she comes to him in love and trust. Christ Himself is our heavenly spouse, drawing us, the Church, ever closer to Him. I pray that we might delight in His Word as He delights in us.
